Examining How the July 2017 SSD Benefits Statistics Report Impacts Beneficiaries
The July 2017 SSD benefits statistics report shows a couple of interesting data points, starting with the 51,000 fewer total beneficiaries compared to June. Children drove the biggest drop in beneficiary numbers, with 42,000 removed from the rolls within the last 30 days. For only the second time in 2017, the spousal beneficiary numbers changed, falling by 2,000 total. According to this month’s snapshot, 7,000 fewer disabled workers are now receiving monthly benefits. These updated numbers also include deceased beneficiaries struck from rolls since issuing June’s report, fraudulent claims and individuals who started working again this month. We’re halfway through this year, and the July 2017 SSD benefits statistics report shows 186,000 fewer total beneficiaries than a year ago in August 2016.

Children of disabled workers got $1.47 less this month, while spouses got nearly that amount added to their checks. Since August of last year, the average benefits check jumped by $9.15 each month.
